Storage Conditions
Ethyl mercaptan is a volatile organic compound. Therefore, the following storage conditions should be observed when storing ethyl mercaptan:

1. Temperature: Ethyl mercaptan should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. It is recommended to keep the storage temperature below 0°C to reduce the risk of volatility and oxidation.

2. Light: Ethyl mercaptan is easily decomposed by ultraviolet light and other light sources, so it should be stored in a dark place.

3. Air: Ethyl mercaptan is easily oxidized when in contact with oxygen in the air, producing odors and contaminants. Therefore, contact with air should be avoided during storage.

Storage Containers
Storing ethyl mercaptan in a suitable container can extend its shelf life and maintain the stability of its chemical properties. Below are some suitable containers for storing ethyl mercaptan:

1. Glass Bottles: Ethyl mercaptan does not corrode glass bottles, making them a relatively safe and convenient storage container.

2. Stainless Steel Containers: Stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and sealing performance, making it another reliable choice for storing ethyl mercaptan.

3. Aluminum Cans: Aluminum cans effectively control the gas content in the storage environment, reducing air contact and thus maintaining the quality of ethanethiol.

Precautions: The following precautions should also be taken when storing ethanethiol:

1. Avoid Mixing: Ethyl mercaptan should be stored separately to prevent mixing with other chemicals or contamination.

2. Keep Away from Fire: Ethyl mercaptan is a flammable liquid and should be kept away from open flames and other sources of ignition.

3. Take Protective Measures: When storing ethanethiol, wear protective gloves, goggles, and protective clothing to prevent skin and eye irritation and damage from ethanethiol.
