History Of Sulfur Dioxide Development

Around 4,000 years ago, Egyptians used sulfur dioxide, produced by burning sulfur, to bleach cloth. Ancient Greeks and Romans were also adept at using sulfur dioxide for fumigation, disinfection, and bleaching. In the 9th century BC, the famous Roman poet Homer recorded in his writings that the burning of sulfur had disinfecting and bleaching effects.
