Product Overview

Liquefied Propane Gas, commonly referred to as propane or LPG, is a versatile, clean-burning hydrocarbon fuel stored and transported as a liquid under moderate pressure. Derived from natural gas processing and petroleum refining, this colorless, odorless gas is intentionally odorized for safety with ethyl mercaptan to enable leak detection. As a portable, high-energy-density fuel, liquefied propane gas provides reliable energy for heating, cooking, transportation, and industrial processes in areas beyond the natural gas grid. Its favorable combustion profile and storage efficiency make liquefied propane gas a cornerstone of off-grid energy supply worldwide.

Basic Information

CAS No. 74-98-6
UN No. UN1978 (Propane)
Molecular Formula C₃H₈
Hazard Classification 2.1 (Flammable gas)

Key Attributes & Parameters

Purity Commercial grade typically >95% propane, with the balance being other hydrocarbons like propylene, ethane, and butane. HD-5 grade is a common specification for engine fuel, limiting propylene content.
Physical State Colorless, odorless gas; stored and handled as a clear, colorless liquid under pressure in its container.
Boiling Point -42.1 °C (-43.8 °F) at atmospheric pressure.
Vapor Pressure (at 21°C) Approximately 8.4 bar (122 psi).
Expansion Ratio 1 volume of liquid expands to about 270 volumes of gas at 15°C.
Odor Commercially odorized with a stenching agent (e.g., ethyl mercaptan) for safety.

Features & Advantages

Portable & Storable Energy

Its high energy content (approx. 91,500 BTU per gallon) and ability to liquefy under moderate pressure allow for efficient storage in cylinders and tanks, enabling energy access anywhere.

Clean Combustion

Liquefied propane gas burns relatively cleanly compared to many other fuels, producing lower greenhouse gas emissions per BTU than gasoline or diesel and minimal soot or sulfur oxides.

Reliable & On-Demand Supply

It is not dependent on pipelines, providing a dependable energy source for backup power, seasonal use, and mobile applications.

Versatile Application Range

Can be used across residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors for space/water heating, cooking, fuel for vehicles and forklifts, metal cutting, and as a chemical feedstock.

Functional Characteristics

Liquefied propane gas functions as a dense, portable energy carrier. It is stored as a liquid in pressurized containers (cylinders, tanks). When the container valve is opened, pressure is released, causing some of the liquid to vaporize into gas, which is then drawn off for use. The gas is delivered to appliances via regulators that control pressure. Its combustion releases heat, CO₂, and water vapor. In industrial settings, it can also serve as a direct feedstock for petrochemical production via propane dehydrogenation (PDH).

Primary Application Fields

Residential & Commercial

Primary fuel for heating homes and businesses, water heating, cooking (stoves, grills), clothes drying, and backup power generation.

Industrial

Fuel for fork-lifts (indoor use), metal cutting/welding (oxy-propane), space heating in warehouses, and as a process heat source.

Agriculture

Fuel for crop drying, flame weeding, heating greenhouses and livestock buildings, and powering irrigation engines.

Transportation

Alternative fuel for vehicles (autogas), buses, and fleets, often blended with butane.

Chemical Feedstock

An increasingly important raw material for producing propylene via PDH units.

Customer Collaboration Case

A large poultry farming operation sought to modernize its energy infrastructure to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance environmental sustainability. We partnered with them to design and implement a complete, on-site liquefied propane gas energy system to replace their aging and costly electric heating and diesel generators. The solution included the installation of two large bulk storage tanks, a vaporization and distribution system, and new high-efficiency propane-powered heaters for multiple broiler houses and a feed mill. The reliability and instant heat control of the liquefied propane gas system led to more consistent barn temperatures, improving bird growth rates and feed conversion ratios. The switch resulted in a 30% reduction in their overall energy costs and a significant decrease in their carbon footprint. Our ongoing automated delivery service and 24/7 support ensured uninterrupted operation, demonstrating the role of liquefied propane gas as a cost-effective, reliable, and cleaner primary energy source for modern agriculture.

FAQ

Q: After the export of chemical products, if the customers need to adjust their orders due to market changes, how should it be handled?

A: Handling method: If the orders have not yet been produced, they can negotiate to adjust the product specifications, quantity or delivery date, and sign a supplementary agreement; if they have entered the production process, they need to assess the feasibility based on the production progress (such as if the raw materials have been purchased, they need to bear part of the loss of raw materials); if the goods have been dispatched, they can negotiate for a return (they need to bear the transportation, customs clearance and other costs) or resale (assist in finding other customers). Our company will try to cooperate with the customers to adjust the orders, while clearly defining the responsibilities and cost-sharing of both parties to ensure fair cooperation.
